Professional biography

Dr. Deborah L. Tillman is a mother, early childhood educator, author, speaker, and founder of Purposed Parenting. She is widely known for her work on Lifetime’s America’s Supernanny.

After struggling to find suitable care for her young son, she left accounting and entered early childhood education. In 1994, she opened Happy Home Child Learning Center in Alexandria, Virginia. Her work expanded into the organization known as Happy Home Christian Leadership Academy for Early Learners.

Deborah earned her master’s degree in early childhood special education at The George Washington University in 2002. Her professional focus connects the learning environment, the adults who lead it, and the routines children experience every day.

Lifetime introduced her to a national television audience through America’s Supernanny. She brought her experience working with children and caregivers into family homes, helping parents examine routines and put a consistent approach into practice.

Her publishing includes Stepping Out on Faith: How to Open a Quality Childcare Center, Parenting on Purpose, and Game Changers. Her current book, The Parenting OS, organizes practical parenting education into 25 systems for the birth-to-five years.

She has also developed parenting and family educational work through the John C. Maxwell organization. Current School materials identify her as a former president of its Parenting and Family Certification Program.

Today, Deborah’s work through Purposed Parenting and The Parenting OS School brings together independent reading, guided learning, at-home practice, and continuing parent education. Her speaking and media work extends that conversation to educators, organizations, and wider audiences.
